Concept of Sex and Gender

Sex and gender are two interrelated concepts, but they are not the same thing. Here’s a breakdown to understand the difference:

Sex

Sex refers to the biological attributes that define a person as male, female, or intersex. These attributes include sex chromosomes, hormones, and internal and external reproductive organs.

Gender

Gender refers to the social and cultural roles, behaviors, and identities associated with being a man, a woman, or something else entirely. Gender is a spectrum, and it can be different from a person’s sex assigned at birth.

It’s important to understand that sex and gender are not fixed categories. Our understanding of both continues to evolve, and societies are becoming more accepting of gender diversity.
