The relationship between social class and educational outcomes is a complex and persistent issue. Socioeconomic status undeniably influences a student’s academic trajectory.

Children from affluent backgrounds often benefit from advantages such as access to high-quality early childhood education, enriched learning environments, and additional resources like tutoring and test preparation. These factors can contribute to a significant achievement gap between socioeconomic groups.

Furthermore, cultural capital, or the knowledge, habits, and tastes valued by dominant social groups, can also impact educational success. Students from privileged backgrounds are often more familiar with the cultural codes of academic institutions, which can lead to advantages in areas like writing, communication, and test-taking.

To address these disparities, a multifaceted approach is necessary. This includes expanding access to quality early childhood education, increasing funding for schools in disadvantaged areas, implementing culturally responsive pedagogy, and providing targeted support services for students from low-income backgrounds.
